Julie Ranti, flutist,
was the youngest member to join the Toronto Symphony Orchestra when she
won the audition at age 24. Today she is associate principal flutist of
the TSO. Julie grew up in Montreal in a musical family: her mother is a
harpist, her father the former principal trumpeter of the Montreal
Symphony Orchestra, and her brother is a bassoonist with the Boston
Symphony Orchestra. Julie began her studies with Jeanne Baxtresser, the
MSO’s principal flutist at the time. After a year at the Interlochen
Arts Academy, she attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where
she studied with Julius Baker and Samuel Baron. Julie is a founding
member of the Bach Consort, and is on faculty at the Royal Conservatory
of Music in Toronto.
